12-year-old boy shot dead in Brooklyn apartment building

A 12-year-old boy was shot in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening, according to police.

The boy was in the lobby of an apartment building on Bristol Street off Dumont Avenue in Brownsville when gunfire erupted around 9:20 p.m., police said.

He was wounded in the left shoulder.

Doctors took the young victim to the medical center. Maimonides, where he is expected to recover.

According to sources, a handgun was found in the lobby of the building.

There were no immediate arrests as police worked to find the shooter.
