Man dies when Mercedes crashes New York highway into tree: police

A man died early Saturday morning when his Mercedes-Benz swerved off Jackie Robinson Boulevard, hitting a phone booth and a tree, police said.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was thrown out of his luxury car after a horrific crash at 6:30 am, police said.

Police said the Mercedes Benz was driving west on a winding, rain-and-snow-filled highway through Forest Park in Queens when it lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into an emergency call box along the shoulder.

He then turned into a wooded area and crashed into a tree, police said.

Rescuers found the victim lying on the ground near the car.

The victim died at the scene, officials said. The police tried to identify him on Saturday.
