Youth killers doubled thanks to speaker Carl Histie

Albany legislators passed an age-raising bill meaning kids under 18 do the right thing. But it turns out that the increase in the age of criminal responsibility to 18, which came into effect in October 2019, has led to a huge jump in the number of underage murderers. and victims.

New NYPD data shows that between January and September last year, the number of juvenile murder suspects jumped to 161, nearly double the number from the same period in 2019.

This follows an October NYPD report showing that the number of teenagers, shooters and victims has tripled in the last five years – a deadly trend that coincides with the passage of the Raise the Age Act.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams often talk about ending gun violence, and yes, murders and shootings have dropped in the past year. But Raise the Age may have spawned a whole new generation of shooters.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell told The Post that disastrous criminal justice reforms have left the NYPD unable to stop the rampant youth outrage.

Another troubling NYPD statistic obtained exclusively by The Post: The number of young people involved in gun violence, including as shooters, suspects, victims and witnesses, rose from 179 in 2017 to 388 last year. .

Mayor Adams has pointed out in the past that gang members often make younger members their gunmen, knowing they’ll get off lightly if caught.

“The cruel irony is that the communities that these politicians are falsely trying to protect are actually communities that clean their streets of children’s blood,” said a law enforcement source, fed up with reforms that have only killed many young blacks and Latin Americans. lives in the city.

How can lawmakers in Albany think that Raise the Age working when the number of teenage shooters and more victims? But Assembly Speaker Carl Histie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins—both Democrats, both blacks—closed their eyes, put their fingers in their ears, and buried their heads in the corrupt Albany sand.

Another black Democrat, Albany District Attorney David Soares, lamented the disaster caused by the RTA and other criminal justice reforms. But, apparently, the prosecutors, even the former reformers who supported George Soros, should not be listened to.

Family Court may be the right place for children who once made the wrong decision and committed a non-violent crime. But those who commit violent crimes, such as gun crimes, must go to adult criminal court.

Refusing to fix the RTA, Heastie & Co. sends more children into a life of crime and puts even more young lives at risk.
