Two arrested in anti-LGBTQ vandalism spree targeting Manhattan pol’s home, office

Two people were arrested Monday for breaking into a New York City Council member’s apartment building as crazed anti-LGBTQ activists targeted the pol, police said.

The individuals, said to be furious over a recent drag story time session at a Manhattan library, targeted Councilman Erik Bottcher’s home and office, according to cops.

The group call themselves “gays against groomers,” the lawmaker said in a tweet. They struck first at the democrat’s Chelsea office around 3 p.m., cops said.

Erik Bottcher attends the 2022 Center Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street on April 14, 2022 in New York City.

The vandals scrawled a vulgar variation on his last name on the hallway outside the district office, Bottcher said.

He did not immediately return a request for comment.

“We will not be cowed,” he tweeted Monday night. “We will not be silenced. We will continue to stand up against hate.”

Later, the group gathered outside the councilman’s apartment building, chalking hateful, threatening phrases on the sidewalk.

Drag Story Hour protesters wrote messages in chalk outside the home of CM Erik Bottcher.

“Erik Boccher [sic] is a pedo child groomer,” blared one of the statements.

Two women broke into the building around 5 p.m., prompting Bottcher’s superintendent to call the police.

They were arrested and charges against them were pending late Monday night, cops said.

“This is pure hate, unmasked,” Bottcher said in a tweet. “If they think this is going to intimidate us, they’re mistaken. Our resolve is strengthened.”

He was elected in 2021 to represent Council District 3, which covers Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, Hudson Square, Flatiron, Times Square, the Theater District and the Garment District.

On his website, he describes his humble upbringing in a small town in the Adirondack Mountains “as the only gay person he knew.”

On Saturday, Bottcher attended a “totally benign and really lovely” drag story time at the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library in Chelsea — an event that incensed off groups opposed to the children’s program.

“They’re regular books,” Bottcher said to a protestor outside the library Saturday. “I was there.”
