Suspect nabbed in fatal shooting of 17-year-old girl at Brooklyn house party

A suspect cops say fired the shot that killed a 17-year-old girl at a Brooklyn house party has been nabbed, a police source said Wednesday.

Javone Duncan, 22, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon Wednesday.

The source said Duncan fired a single shot into the chest of Raelynn Cameron, the night of Oct. 10 during an impromptu house party at a vacant East New York apartment on Eldert Lane near Dumont Ave.

Her family said the arrest is good news — to an extent.

“Nothing brings her back,” her brother Ralik Smith told the Daily News on Wednesday. “It’s like step two. First part was putting her away with love. … Very grateful they were able to apprehend her killer. Catching him will bring joy, but not lasting joy.”

Raelynn, who lived in Far Rockaway, went to the party at the urging of her cousin, her family said.

The aspiring dancer, just 10 days short of her 18th birthday, showed up still dressed in her pajamas, the party attended by a bunch of young people who all knew each other.

What happened next is not entirely clear, and a police spokeswoman said she had not yet been briefed on a motive in the murder Wednesday afternoon.

The victim’s mother, Cassandra Adams, told the Daily News the cousin stepped away from the party, leaving Raelynn in a room with several males and that Raelynn then texted a relative saying she needed help.

But it was too late for anyone to intervene, with Raelynn shot a short time later. She was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital but could not be saved.

Police sources said Raelynn, whose body was dragged into the elevator and dumped in the lobby, told first responders she was shot accidentally and refused to identify the shooter to police as she was rushed away in an ambulance.

But her mother believes she was already dead by the time she was dumped in the lobby.

“My heart is broken,” Adams said at the time. “I will never look at the world the same way again. I can’t see the spark that was there. … It’s gray and it’s dark now.”

The victim graduated this past June from the Brooklyn High School of the Arts and had just started business classes at CUNY.

Her brother on Wednesday blasted those he says belittled his sister on social media and said he hopes those who were at the party and stonewalled police also get charged.

“The police always knew they were lying,” he said. “There has to be justice.”
