Police identify suspect who shot Lanyard during train brawl in Manhattan

Police on Tuesday identified the perpetrator who they believe shot and killed a 34-year-old woman who was hanging her belt on a Manhattan subway train late last month.

Police said the victim was on an N train bound for Brooklyn and approaching Canal Street just after 1:00 a.m. on January 28, when he got into an altercation with 30-year-old Marcos Cofresi and a woman.

The disagreement escalated, police said, and Cofresi drew a pistol and fired twice, wounding the man once in the left arm and once in the torso.

Cofresi, from Bushwick, got off the train on Canal Street with the woman and left, police said.

Medics took the victim to Bellevue Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are asking the public to help locate Cofresi and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Squad at (800) 577-TIPS.
