NYPD cop accused of shooting gun in the air after drunk crash actually took aim at Uber driver: prosecutors

An NYPD cop who was accused of shooting in the air after being involved in a drunken crash in Brooklyn was actually aiming at an Uber driver, prosecutors allege.

Officer Efrain Alejandro, 29, was arrested early Saturday for drunk driving, threatening and attempted assault, and then suspended without pay.

He was driving a Jeep Wrangler near Vernon Avenue and Corpse Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant when he crashed into a line of three parked cars around 2:10 am, police said.

The officer rebuffed a nearby wine cellar owner and an Uber driver who were both trying to help him when Alejandro drew his gun and fired into the air, police initially said.

But, according to a criminal case filed in court, Alejandro pointed a gun at the owner of the wine cellar, telling him to “go away.” Then, when the Uber driver tried to drive around Alejandro’s wrecked SUV, the police officer on duty allegedly shot at the motorist but missed.

Alejandro was taken to the nearest hospital. According to police, his blood alcohol content was 0.08%.

Alejandro earned $48,555 as a police officer in 2022, according to SeeThroughNY, a website that collects data on government salaries. He was assigned to Precinct 40 in the South Bronx prior to his suspension.
