Man dies, 10 hospitalized as hell breaks out at Queens home: FDNY

One person died and 10 others were hospitalized when a raging fire in Queens swept through a home near LaGuardia Airport, police and fire officials said Saturday.

The fire broke out in a house on 89th Street near Astoria Boulevard. in Jackson Heights around 11 p.m. Friday.

Arriving firefighters found on the second floor of a three-story house an unknown man who had inhaled smoke. He was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died.

The victim had not been identified as of Saturday morning, police said.

Six more residents of the house, including a 57-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, who had to be pulled out of the fire, were taken to district hospitals with smoke poisoning. but recovery was expected.

Four firefighters fighting the fire also suffered minor injuries, FDNY officials said.

According to the FDNY, the fire broke out on the second floor of the house and spread to the third floor. About 100 firefighters took part in extinguishing the fire, which took about an hour to put out.

The cause of the fire was investigated on Saturday.
