Man, 51, fatally slashed in neck outside East Village bar where he was a regular

A 51-year-old man was fatally slashed in the neck early Monday outside an East Village bar where he was a regular, police said.

The victim finished a nonalcoholic seltzer at Spike’s on Avenue A near 14th St. about 1:05 a.m., witnesses said.

He walked outside and was sliced in the neck after getting into a confrontation in front of a neighboring vacant storefront, according to cops.

“When I went outside he was facedown and there was a lot of blood,” said a woman who works at the bar. “I could see it was his ponytail, but I didn’t know it was him until they flipped him over to put him on the gurney. He was gone. It was pretty fast.”

Medics rushed him unconscious with a severe cut to his neck to Bellevue Hospital, where he died.

The victim, who often came in to the bar to order a seltzer or soda, never drank alcohol but instead used the bar as a community center.

“He was a super nice guy,” said an employee, who asked not to be named.

The victim lived near where he was killed, according to cops. His name was not immediately released.

The killer has not been caught, and no murder weapon was recovered.
