Judge Announces Unique Trial Rules for Georgia Mother Accused of Killing Her Baby and Dumping Her Body

As the trial of a Georgia woman accused of killing her 20-month-old son draws near, the judge has placed unusual restrictions on the media.

Leilani Simon, 22, was arrested on November 21. She was charged with malice murder, covering up the death of another, falsely reporting a crime, and making false statements or letters in connection with the death of her son Quinton, according to the WTOC. -TV.

Police say she killed her 20-month-old son Quinton and dumped his body in a landfill in Savannah.

Simon’s hearing on the charges has been scheduled for March 23, according to WASV-TV.

Before that, a Chatham County Judge issued rules for media representatives covering the trial, WSAV-TV reports.

Any media outlet covering the trial must agree to the 15 Rules in advance, obtain prior permission to use cameras in the courtroom, and agree to co-coverage.

Videos or images of Leilani Simon in handcuffs are prohibited, as are images of Simon showing her talking to her lawyers or family members’ reactions to what is happening in court.

According to the British Daily Mail, Supreme Court Justice Tammy Stokes had previously ruled that cameras should be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

According to WJCL-TV, the prosecution and defense opposed any cameras or live broadcasts.

Will Leilani Simon be found guilty?

Prosecutor Timothy Dean took a position based on the privacy of the siblings of the murdered toddler.

Defense attorney Joseph Vigneri cited the need for an impartial jury in his objection.

Leilani Simon, who spent 100 days behind bars, is asking for bail to be released from prison.

Under Georgia law, bail must be set within 90 days of a suspect’s arrest, reports The US Sun.

Last month, Stokes ordered the Department of Family and Children’s Affairs to turn over the prosecution file against Leilani Simon, according to WTOC-TV.

The agency fought against granting access to the records.

Quinton Simon’s body was found in a Savannah landfill weeks after he disappeared.

According to the New York Post, Leilani Simon initially claimed that she believed someone had taken the baby.
