Driver found dead in burning car in Rockaways: NYPD

Police said firefighters fighting a car fire in Rockways early Saturday found the driver dead at the wheel.

First responders were called to Mott Avenue and Bay 25 Street in Far Rockaway when witnesses reported a white 2012 Nissan Altima caught fire.

A body was found in the driver’s seat, police said.

The corpse was so badly charred that it was not immediately clear whether the victim was a man or a woman. The police tried to identify the victim on Saturday.

An autopsy was also scheduled to determine how the driver died.

The shoes are pictured at the scene on Saturday morning.

According to police sources, the car was seen burning in the middle of a quiet residential area near a parking lot.

Police and FDNY firefighters have been trying to determine what caused the fire on Saturday.
