Brooklyn cyclist dies in truck crash

A cyclist was killed in a collision with a van at an intersection in Brooklyn on Tuesday, police said.

The 37-year-old victim was pedaling east on Ninth Street in Gowanus around 7:20 a.m. when she and a truck driver stopped at a red light on Second Avenue around 7:20 a.m., police said.

As the light turned green and the cyclist and driver continued east, the woman suddenly turned the handlebars of the bike in the direction of the car.

The 39-year-old box truck driver remained at the scene and was not charged immediately.

Police said the steering wheel touched the truck and she was pulled onto the pavement before the rear wheels ran over her.

The woman died on the spot. Her name is not immediately revealed.

Approximately 12 hours ago, a 32-year-old e-bike driver was seriously injured in a collision with a van near Union and S. Second Street. in Williamsburg, police said.

On Monday evening, a 32-year-old man on an e-bike crashed into a minivan at the corner of Union and S. 2nd Sts.  in Williamsburg.

Medics rushed the electric biker to an area hospital where he was clinging to life after an accident on Monday at 7:45 p.m.

No charges were immediately filed against the driver of the minibus, who was traveling in the same direction as the motorcyclist, police said.

There were 384 fatal accidents in the city last year, six fewer than in 2021.

According to statistics, 17 cyclists died in 2022, two fewer than in 2021.
