Bronx mother accused of luring ex-boyfriend to be shot by current hunk

Last month, a Bronx mother lured her 2-year-old son’s father to death, shot by her current boyfriend as part of a deadly plot, Daily News learned.

According to Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Kamens, Brittany Ward, who was initially thought to be the victim of the Feb. 7 attack, was instead accused of teaming up with accused shooter Aaron Rene to kill the victim because a little boy was left unattended in the lobby of a nearby building.

After Marquis Lane was shot near Park Avenue and E. 167th Street in Morrisania, Ward “left the area with co-defendant Aaron Rene,” Kamens said. “… The co-defendant and Brittany Ward had a conversation in which they knew that (the victim) would be in that place.”

The prosecutor said that Ward made sure “(Lane) was in a certain place … guaranteed that he would be killed.” Court documents accused the two of “acting in concert … caused the death of the Marquis of Lane by shooting him.”

Marquis Lane, 31, was shot around the corner of his home.

Ward was only arrested in the case on 7 March.

On the day of his arrest on Feb. 21, René issued a statement admitting that he knew the victim “and they didn’t like each other,” court documents say.

Ward was released and ordered to wear an electronic monitor after a controversial court hearing on Monday, in which relatives of the suspect and victim interrupted the hearing.

“It is not true!” yelled a member of the Ward family during the hearing, while a relative of the victim yelled, “This shit is crazy!” after the release of the defendant.

René, 30, was arrested two weeks after the shooting on charges of murder, manslaughter and possession of a weapon and was held without bail. Police said the murder accused has one unsealed previous arrest.

The victim, who had a long list of previous arrests, was a construction worker who lived nearby with his 75-year-old grandmother and was the father of three other children.

Authorities initially said Rene came to his girlfriend’s aid when Lane attacked her, with police saying the video showed the victim attacking his ex before the shooting.

Defense attorney Brian Sullivan, representing Ward, insisted that his client was wrongly accused of murder.

“She was there to pick up their child,” Sullivan said, mocking Lane’s family at the hearing. “I don’t know how you can say that she seduced him. Obviously she was shocked when this man was shot.”
