Bronx man shot gas in the head during robbery: police

Police sources said a man filling his car at a gas station in the Bronx was shot in the head during a robbery early Friday morning, but not before dousing the gunman with gasoline.

The 51-year-old victim was standing next to a pump at a Gulf gas station at Webster Ave. and E. 175th Street in Tremont around 1:00 a.m. when a gunman ran up to him and demanded money.

According to police sources, trying to drive away the robber, the victim doused the shooter with gasoline.

The suspect then opened fire, shooting the victim in the head.

According to police, an ambulance took the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where his condition was assessed as critical but stable.

According to police, the shooter fled without taking anything. No arrests were made.
