A 68-year-old man has been arrested for pointing a machine gun at strangers on Brooklyn Street and threatening to shoot.

Police and witnesses reported Wednesday that a frustrated 68-year-old man was arrested for walking down a Brooklyn street with a machine gun while threatening to shoot anyone in sight.

Michael Stevens was seen walking with a .22 rifle outside the Newkirk Plaza train station in Flatbush around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday before he broke into Plaza Grocery, threatening several customers and workers inside.

“He pointed a gun at everyone. It was a big blow,” said one Plaza Grocery worker, who asked not to be named. “Everyone tried to run.”

Before entering the store, Stevens allegedly pointed a gun at several people outside near the flower shop.

“He just wandered around with it. He did not try to hide it,” the worker said. “He set on the children and threw it right in the face of a woman. At first everyone thought it was a toy, but it was real.”

According to the employee, the employee of the nearby store took heroic actions.

“He grabbed [Stevens] from behind and shouted: “Take his gun! Take his gun! And someone did,” the employee said. “The police arrived in a second.

“I’ll kill everyone! I’ll kill the police!” Stevens said, according to the worker.

His rifle, as it turned out, was not loaded. According to the worker, the magazine was not attached.

“[We] responded immediately and were able to safely make an arrest!” NYPD Deputy Inspector Bruce Ceparano, Commander of the 70th Precinct, tweeted. “Outstanding work!”

The police charged Stevens with threats and possession of a weapon. His indictment in Brooklyn Criminal Court was expected on Wednesday.

Stevens lives about a block from the grocery store.

“We know him from the area, but he’s usually normal,” the still-shocked worker said. “Then he’s acting like a lunatic.” I don’t know what happened to him.”
