A 45-year-old man died in a kitchen fire in the Bronx, three relatives, including a child, were injured

On Tuesday, authorities said a 45-year-old man died in a kitchen fire at his Bronx apartment, injuring three relatives, including a child.

The fire broke out around 10:15 p.m. Monday in a 26-story building on Ogden Avenue near West 167th Street.

“We had a fire on the 24th floor, windows on the balcony exploded. The units went up there and were met with heavy fire right at the door of the apartment,” FDNY Deputy Chief Richie said at the scene. “We had two tenants who left the apartment before we arrived. The units found one man in the back of the apartment.”

Medics took the man to Lincoln Hospital, but they could not save him.

The FDNY said another victim was taken to the same hospital in serious condition, and two more were taken to a Harlem hospital, one in serious condition, the other in stable condition. Police said the survivors were a 46-year-old woman and two boys, aged 15 years and 11 months.

It took 106 firefighters about 50 minutes to bring the fire under control.

FDNY fire chiefs are working to determine what caused the blaze.
