Woman, four children struck by hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn

Four children — including a baby in a stroller — and their 41-year-old mother were injured Tuesday when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn as two of the kids got off a school bus, police sources said.

The duo were disembarking near the intersection of Avenue J and New York Ave. in Flatlands around 5 p.m. as their mother, a one-year-old baby girl and another child waited for them, according to cops and sources.

Police had attempted to pull the car over about two blocks away before the crash, but the driver took off, police said.

NYPD officers investigate at the intersection of Avenue J and New York Avenue where four pedestrians were reportedly struck by a white Mercedes sedan that fled the scene, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022.

A police spokesperson said it was still under investigation if police were chasing the car.

Local resident Joanne Johnson, 32, watched in horror as the white four-door Mercedes Benz approached.

“I heard the car even before it hit them,” Johnson described the scene before the driver slammed into the kids while they crossed the street to get to their mother.

The car hit the woman and the baby along with a 3-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl, cops said.

“[The driver] blew past the stop sign and hit them,” Johnson told the Daily News. “It was disgusting. So wrong.”

The force of the crash sent the woman under the school bus.

“The mom was under the bus crying,” the witness said. “There was another baby in a stroller.”

As the victim lay injured under the bus, the woman screamed, “Help me! My kids! My kids!”

In video of the aftermath viewed by the Daily News, stunned witnesses screamed in the street as some tried to help the woman and injured kids.

All five victims were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.

After the crash, police found the Mercedes abandoned about a mile away, on E. 24th St. and Glenwood Road, sources said.

Police are still looking for the driver.
