What you need to know about Jalen Hurts

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Herts, 24, will aim to become the fourth starting quarterback under the age of 25 to win the Super Bowl.

The Eagles went 16-1 when Hurts started, losing two games while sidelined with a season-ending shoulder injury.

Hurts set an NFL record for a QB with 15 TD passes in the regular season and playoffs, and also ranked first in the NFL this season with 11 TD passes on throws at least 20 yards downfield.

Patrick Mahomes dominated the AP NFL Most Valuable Player Award. Mahomes, who also won in 2018, easily edged out Jalen Herts with 48 out of 50 first-place votes from a nationwide group of media representatives who regularly cover the league. He scored 490 points to 193 for Hurts, who got one first, 26 seconds, 11 thirds and 10 fourths.

Jalen Hurts has a 23-11 QB record in his three-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 45 games, 34 games as a starter.

Jalen Hurts committed to coaching Nick Saban in 2016 and University of Alabama as the top double threat QB in the state of Texas and was a four-star rookie. After three seasons with Crimson Tide and a degree in Public Relations, Herts moved to University of Oklahoma for his senior season. While in Oklahoma, he received a master’s degree in human relations.

While in Oklahoma, Jalen Herts finished second in the Heisman Trophy tournament to LSU QB Joe Burrow and earned All-America and All-Big 12 first-team honors. In his senior year, he had 3,851 passing yards and 1,298 rushing yards. He ranked second among QBs in total TDs with 53.

Jalen Herts was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 53rd overall pick. He was the fifth QB selected in this draft after Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love, who were selected in the first round.

Jalen Herts was born in Houston. He grew up in a football family and was coached by his father Averion at Channelview High School. Jalen’s brother, Averion Jr., was a QB at Texas Southern University and is now a coach at Baytown High School.

Jalen Hurts’ parents are Averion and Pamela Hurts.

According to Spotrac.com, Jalen Herts signed a four-year, $6,025,171 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles that included a $1,941,944 signing bonus, $2,825,815 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,506,293.

In 2022, Herts earned a base salary of $1,082,744 and a $75,000 coaching bonus. In 2023, which is the final year of his rookie contract, Hurts will receive a base salary of $4,303,000 and a $100,000 training bonus.
