Raquel Welch, model and actress, dies at 82

Raquel Welch, known for her iconic bombshell characters and dubbed an international sex symbol in the 1960s, has died. According to numerous reports, she was 82 years old.

TMZ reported that Welch died Wednesday morning after a “short illness,” according to family members.

According to IMDB, Welch was born to live in the spotlight, entering beauty pageants and winning multiple titles as a teenager.

She attended San Diego State College and became a virtual weather girl on local TV when she wasn’t concentrating on her studies.

Welch worked as a model in Dallas, Texas before returning to California where she began her acting career.

She played her first major film role in Swinging Summer in 1965, after which she signed a contract with 20th Century Fox.

Welch then landed one of her most iconic roles in A Billion BC, where she took on the role of Loana, a fluffy bikini-clad beauty.

Despite her exhilarating roles and famous looks, her fame faded a bit after several box office failures, but she soon won a Golden Globe for her role in The Three Musketeers in 1973.

After trying to make a comeback in the early 1980s with “Cannery Row”, Welch was abruptly fired from the production. According to IMDB, she sued MGM for breach of contract and won $15 million in damages.

Unfortunately, due to the lawsuit, Welch developed a reputation for being difficult to work with on set, and so she turned to television movies as her primary acting business.

Welch went on to star in The Legend of Walking Away, which won her a Golden Globe Award, and she also starred in Right to Die.
