VIDEO: Thieves attack 79-year-old jewelry store worker in Queens, robbing $1.1 million

The robber pretended to deliver a package from Amazon so that he and his partner could break into a jewelry store in Queens, where they attacked an elderly employee and stole $1.1 million worth of goods – a chilling video.

The 79-year-old victim looked after the store, and the owner, her daughter, ran for lunch. The mother now blames herself for opening the shop’s locked door and letting in the vicious crooks who beat her and beat her with a gun before smashing the jewelry display case.

“She keeps saying, ‘What if I hadn’t opened the door?’ owner Eva Cheng, 43, said Tuesday at her Flushing store. “But I console her and say: “Mom, they were waiting there. If I came back, it would be even worse… They would run into both of us.”

The Diamond Collect store is located on 39th Avenue in Flushing.

The attackers, who fled and fled in a dark Mercedes accompanied by two other men who acted as lookouts, are still being sought.

The NYPD is urging vendors to require anyone who shows up wearing a mask, especially if they are also wearing gloves and hoods, to show their face before entering.

“We see this being used too often as a ploy to infiltrate a business and make our business a victim,” said department head James Essig. “Companies must protect themselves as we work to protect them as well.”

Police released CCTV footage of two men who, authorities say, robbed a Queens jewelry store and beat a 79-year-old employee.

The robbery took place last Wednesday afternoon at the Diamond Collect store, on the second floor of the mall on 39th Avenue, just off Prince Street.

Chen has owned the business for 10 years and meets with clients who call to make an appointment. She asked her mother, as she often does, to look after the shop, this time, while she ran out for lunch.

The owner of Diamond Collect, located on 39th Avenue in Flushing, is pictured outside her store.

Chen told her mother that no visitors were expected and that she should only open the door for people she knew. The Amazon called her the day before and said that the trash can she had ordered would be delivered, but Chen told her mother to have the courier throw the package outside.

She did just that, as the video showed, while the burglar in a two-tone Amazon jacket went out of his way to appear legit. He even had a scanner in his hand as he checked the store’s address.

He placed the Amazon box in front of the locked door, which Essig said he pulled out of the trash an hour earlier, and then waved at the elderly victim.

He went down the steps, the video showed, then came back and rushed to the front door a minute later. He and his accomplice forced the victim back inside when she opened the door to take the package.

“It was pretty cruel what they did to [her]Essig said. “They knock her down, hit her with a gun, both kick her. They drag her back to try to open the safe.

“It was pretty agonizing.”

NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey speaks at a press conference outside the Diamond Collect store in Queens on Tuesday.

Chen, who had the key to the safe, said she was considering moving the store to a safer location.

For now, she hopes the police find the suspects before they strike again.

Broken jewelry boxes can be seen at the Diamond Collect store located on 39th Avenue in Flushing.

Her mother, who received severe bruises on her hands and was treated for a blood clot in her head, is recovering at home. But she needs to see a therapist, the memory of the gun to her head is still fresh.

“She can’t sleep at night,” Chen said. “Still terrified.”

Anyone with information about the attackers is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
