This humorous video was too much for Adam Schiff: he tried to get it off the Internet, but then everything went wrong

Journalist Matt Taibbi released another batch of internal Twitter documents that reportedly show Rep. Adam Schiff’s employees regularly contacting the platform and pushing them to censor certain posts — even posts that were made for comical purposes.

The thread is the latest version of the “Twitter Files” that were published by the platform’s new owner Elon Musk and published by independent journalists such as Taibbi.

Friday Taibbi reporthe reported that Schiff’s office was in regular contact with Twitter and frequently requested that the platform take down certain posts.

In one case, Schiff employees pushed Twitter officials delete meme mocking Joe Biden, who was running for president at the time.

DNC also turned to twittersuggesting that the post violated a “media manipulation policy”, according to Taibbi.

However, former Twitter head of trust and security Yoel Roth noted that the message had an apparent “humorous intent” and refused to remove the message because “any reasonable observer” could conclude that the GIF was faked.

Should lawmakers be investigated for pushing for Twitter censorship?

The most problematic part of the post was that it was retweeted by then-President Donald Trump, Taibbi said.

However, while Schiff contributor Jeff Lowenstein acknowledged that the meme might not violate the platform’s rules, he suggested that there was a “slippery slope problem” in allowing the post to stand.

Taibbi informed that Schiff’s office regularly demanded the deletion of messages that amounted to little more than “political criticism”.

Of which Twitter rejected requests ban reports of employees serving under Schiff on the House Intelligence Committee.

Schiff’s office also frequently pushed Twitter to take down tweets on the grounds that they were “non-QAn activity,” Taibbi said, pointing out that the messages in question were irrelevant.

According to TaibbiTwitter policy at the time dictated that QAnon-linked content would be “de-amplified” rather than banned.

However, Schiff’s office was concerned that “de-amplification” of the posts would make it harder for law enforcement to track down Twitter offenders.

Recently, Taibbi also released another batch of “Twitter files” that indicated that Democrats and the mainstream media were trying to discredit a report that detailed flaws in the Trump-Russia investigation.

Democrats at the time argued that the report was “spinned by Russian ‘bots’ and ‘trolls’ on social media despite Twitter officials not finding any evidence of Russian influence.

“Twitter warned politicians and media [they] not only was there no evidence, but there was evidence that the accounts were not Russian — and they were completely ignored,” Taibbi said.

Nevertheless, Democrats such as Schiff publicly denounced alleged “Russian influence operations.”

And rather than clear things up, Taibbi found that platform officials chose to remain silent on the matter. “As a result, reporters from AP to Politico, NBC and Rolling Stone continued to procrastinate the topic of “Russian bots”, despite the complete absence of evidence,” Taibbi wrote.
