Thief hit New York hanger with cane and threw him off subway stairs: cops

According to police, the robber beat the hanger with a cane and pushed him down the stairs at the Manhattan subway station, stealing his mobile phone.

The scammer asked the 45-year-old victim if he could use his phone at West 110th Street and Central Park West station shortly before 10 p.m. Jan. 23, police said on Monday.

The man agreed when the suspect swung his cane at him, hitting him on the right side of his face and causing some bleeding, police said.

The thief tried to escape, and the victim followed him up the stairs leading to the exit of the station.

At some point, the assailant turned and knocked him down the stairs, police said.

The victim received minor injuries.

Surveillance footage released by the NYPD shows the suspect was wearing a red jacket, a red rag with a Yankee cap over it, and a gold elephant chain.
