The designer claims that the dresses worn by Sam Brinton were intended for a fashion show.

The Houston-based designer claims she had to cancel a fashion show after her bag full of bespoke items was lost at a Washington, D.C. airport, only to have them seemingly resurface years later when worn former Department of Energy official Sam Brinton.

Asya Khamsin filed for lost luggage after her bag containing 30 original designs disappeared from Ronald Reagan Washington D.C. Airport on March 9, 2018, meaning she had to cancel a scheduled show.

A few years later, the Tanzanian-born designer came across photographs of Brinton, who self-identifies as non-binary and uses the pronouns they/they, wearing the same original custom-made dress.

Speaking from Zanzibar, Khamsin told The Post: “I was like, ‘Who took my bag, where is it?’ for a long time. Then I see pictures of outfits [being worn by Brinton] and I was so confused and upset.

“I wondered where he got these clothes from, because I didn’t think he was a thief.”

Khamsin also posted online a series of photos showing a disgraced former Energy Department official in elaborate dresses side by side with missing dress models that look identical.

Khamsin does not accuse Brinton of stealing the clothes or her luggage from the Washington, D.C. airport, but says he does not understand how they ended up with them.

The designer explained that the dresses and jewelry were originally shown at the “Lady in Red” fashion show she hosts in Dar es Salaam and said she drove through Washington, D.C. to show them on her way home to Houston when her the suitcase is gone. She shared her conversations with officials about lost luggage with Fox News.

Brinton, 35, served as the Biden Deputy Assistant Secretary of Administration for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposal at the US Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Administration but was fired after they were charged with stealing a woman’s suitcase from the Minneapolis airport and another woman’s bag from Las Vegas. -Vegas. airport in summer.

On both occasions, Brinton flew flights from Washington, D.C. before allegedly stealing bags from airport baggage carousels.

After seeing Brinton wearing what she believes to be stolen clothes, Khamsin filed a complaint with the Houston Police Department on December 16. The following month, she said, she was contacted by the agency’s field office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She added, “I don’t know if I want to return the clothes. The investigation is in good hands with the FBI. I’m waiting for them, they will do the right thing.”

The FBI has not confirmed whether it is investigating, as per agency policy. As of Wednesday evening, Brinton had not been charged with any charges related to Khamsin’s clothing.

Khamsin added: “I can’t say anything bad about him, he is a man. I don’t want him to go to jail.”

Brinton was released without bail and ordered not to contact any of the victims last week after appearing in court in Minnesota.

They appeared in a Las Vegas court in December and were released after posting $15,000 bail. The judge in the case told the former nuclear waste officer to “stay out of trouble.”

If found guilty, Brinton faces up to five years in prison for theft in Minnesota and up to 10 years for robbery in Las Vegas.
