Texas street race leads to chaos as spectators set fire to

One officer was injured and several spectators were set on fire during an out-of-control street race in Austin, Texas.

Several emergency calls were received around 9:00 p.m. Saturday night about cars and crowds, causing chaos by blocking an intersection, setting off fireworks and street racing downtown, according to the Austin Police Department.

Several police vehicles were damaged after the unruly crowd began throwing fireworks, bottles, rocks and pointing lasers at the responding officers.

“One officer received an injury incompatible with life, he was treated at a local hospital and discharged,” the ministry said in a statement.

Police detained two people for evading arrest and are still investigating the incident.

“APD is committed to stopping this behavior. Violating the law in this way will result in enforcement and arrest. The safety of our community is APD’s #1 priority.” The department tweeted.

Posted on social media, a video of the lawless street race, also called a takeover, saw a pickup truck driving through a fire and making donuts at an intersection.

As the truck passed over the flames on the ground, a small explosion caused the fire to erupt into a crowd of people who were briefly engulfed in flames.

Several people in the video were seen on fire as they took off their clothes and ran to safety, while others tried to pet them while continuing to cheer and laugh.

Their conditions are unknown.

In another video posted on Twitter, a huge crowd began pushing the police car away by slamming the car’s hood, ignoring the ambulance’s blaring lights and sirens.

The police car reversed away from the disordered crowd, and the unknown perpetrator, due to fireworks, exploded on the hood of the car.

The chaos did not end until almost two in the morning, when the crowd began to disperse.

Local council member Alison Alter expressed her outrage at the incident, saying 911 detained her for 28 minutes after she tried to call to report the seizure, she told the Austin American-Statesman.

A shortage of staff for 911 operators has been a problem in Austin, with an October Fox News report putting the average wait time for calls at two and a half minutes.

The Austin Police Association took over social mediablaming lawmakers in Austin who “failed to make the right decisions and continue to defund, destroy and demoralize public safety.”

Other Texas legislators, seeing the chaos on social media, began calling for a solution to stop these dangerous takeovers.

“God bless our brave men and women in blue! Especially those who work in cities where they are underestimated, underpaid and attacked, like in Austin,” said Rep. Jeff Leach. tweeted.

“We must come together as a community to figure out how to prevent this from happening again, how to keep our community safe, and how to enable our law enforcement to respond quickly and effectively.” Rep. Vicki Goodwin tweeted about the takeover.

Takeovers typically involve hundreds of people and multiple vehicles gathering in an unauthorized area, such as an intersection or an interstate highway, and blocking traffic in dangerous and chaotic stunts and activities.
