Teenagers stole over $40,000 worth of calculators during NYC high school robbery: cops

A group of teenagers escaped with a stash of more than $40,000 of calculators in nine robberies from Bronx high schools within a month, police said.

Authorities said teenagers, believed to be between one and five boys aged between 15 and 18, snuck into schools in the Melrose, Charlotte Gardens and Morrisania areas overnight to pack expensive math devices.

In the first known incident, two teenagers stole calculators worth about $6,900 from the second and third floors of the New York City Charter School of Architecture, Engineering, and Building on Brook Avenue by entering through the fire escape around 2:20 February. 6, the police said. Then they ran away.

Their next robbery took place about two weeks later, on February 19, at the Bronx Regional High School on Stebbins Avenue near Jennings Street. The four suspects stole calculators worth about $1,465 before fleeing through another exit, authorities said.

Then around 1:30 a.m. Feb. 24, a lone suspect broke into the window of the women’s locker room at Morris High School on Boston Road near East 166th Street and grabbed unknown items before fleeing, police said. The cost of the items was also unknown.

The next day at around 1:45 a.m., the two teenagers returned to the same school, this time breaking a second-story window, police said.

Footage released by the NYPD over the weekend shows them using a chair to break the window of a door before opening the door and entering the room. The policemen said that they broke several windows in the same way, but this time they left empty-handed.

Two days later, around 3 a.m., two scammers allegedly smashed a classroom window on the third floor of Legacy College Preparatory High School on Caldwell Avenue near East 158th Street.
