Teen shot dead outside Upper West Side high school: School security sources

A 15-year-old boy was shot outside a high school on the Upper West Side on Tuesday, leading to the closure of the high school and a nearby school, the Daily News learned.

The teenager was outside Martin Luther King High School on Amsterdam Avenue, near 66th Street in Lincoln Square, around 10 a.m. when he was hit by a gunshot, NYPD security sources said.

According to preliminary data, he was taken to the district hospital with a non-fatal wound. Another teenager, allegedly the shooter, was detained at the scene, and firearms were seized.

The shooting led to the closure of Martin Luther King High School, as well as LaGuardia High School, which is also on Amsterdam Avenue, about a block from the school.

The shooting came a day after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in a park across the street from his high school in Queens, police said.

The teenager had just been fired from August Martin High School on Baisley Boulevard. near 155th Street in Springfield Gardens around 2:35 p.m. Monday when he entered Baisley Pond Park across the street. There he had an argument with at least one man, who pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest, police said.

He was taken to a Jamaica hospital in a stable condition.

According to authorities, the teenager refused to cooperate with the police. No arrests were made.
