NYPD officers used handcuffs belonging to a fellow officer who is clinging to life as they captured a suspect accused of shooting him in a botched robbery at the Brooklyn Facebook Marketplace.

Police have arrested Randy “Popper” Jones for shooting a 66th Precinct officer on a deserted street in East New York after luring an on-duty cop there with a fake car sale, authorities said.

The 26-year-old officer, a five-year veteran of the NYPD, was shot in the head during a violent firefight and is fighting for his life at Brookdale University Hospital.

Police tracked Jones, 38, to a hotel in Rockland County on Monday.

The officer and his relative were robbed after heading to Ruby Street between Linden Boulevard. and Dumont Avenue in East New York around 7 p.m. Saturday, hoping to buy a $20,000 Honda Pilot advertised on Facebook Marketplace, police said.

But when the two men arrived, Jones directed them into an alleyway and pointed a gun at them, police said.

As the officer drew his own weapon, Jones allegedly opened fire, hitting the policeman in the head.

A relative – a brother or son-in-law of a policeman – snatched a weapon from a wounded policeman and returned fire five times, but did not hit the shooter.

At the time of the officer’s shooting, Jones was wanted on a warrant in a 2019 driving without a license case, police said.

On Tuesday, Jones’ abandoned BMW was found on 129th Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan, just a few blocks from his last residence, where he lived with his girlfriend and three children.

When shown a photo of the BMW, a man living in Jones’ apartment building on Monday noticed that the luxury car was usually parked outside.

Jones and his girlfriend, according to the man, recently gave birth to a girl.

“I never would have guessed,” the stunned man said of Jones. “He was never violent.”

After detectives identified the gunman who shot Jones, the police searched the apartment building, gaining access to surveillance cameras.

“The police have been here all day tracking his movements on video footage of the building,” said a neighbor who asked not to be named. “We didn’t know it was a policeman (he shot).”
