Philadelphia police say 7 people were shot dead near the schoolyard, including 5 teenagers and a 2-year-old child.

Authorities said a 2-year-old and five teenagers were among seven shot dead outside a Philadelphia school Thursday night as students were fired from an after-school program.

Three gunmen dressed all in black got out of the car and opened fire as students left the James Blaine School in the Strawberry Mansion area shortly before 6 p.m., Fox 29 reported.

The suspects reportedly fired more than 30 shots, prompting the teens to flee back to the schoolyard for cover, the publication reported.

One victim, a 15-year-old boy, was shot twice in the chest and is in critical condition.

According to police, the condition of the remaining six victims is said to be stable.

A 31-year-old woman was shot twice in the leg and her 2-year-old daughter was shot once in the leg.

A 13-year-old boy was wounded once in the arm, a 16-year-old boy was wounded in the arm, another 16-year-old boy was wounded once in the arm and once in the leg, and a 17-year-old boy was wounded in the arm. a one-year-old boy received a bruised leg wound.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlow said her department is investigating whether the shooting was targeted.

“It’s been a pretty quiet part of the 22nd District for quite some time now,” Outlaw told reporters at the scene. “At the moment we are putting everything together to find out if this is a retaliatory strike, whether some of these casualties were intentional or not, but it is still very early to tell.”

Police are looking for three suspects in connection with the shooting, who were seen wearing a gray 2011-2016 Hyundai Elantra with unknown Pennsylvania license plates. Everyone there was dressed in black and wore hoods or masks, according to police descriptions and CCTV images of the men.

“Schools and other public places must remain a haven for youth and the community,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenny said. “It is heartbreaking and infuriating to hear about a new shooting that has taken place on or near a school. I pray for the victims.”
