Passenger who died drunk in Staten Island crash was pregnant, driver charged with manslaughter
The passenger who died in a Staten Island accident caused by alcohol, which led to the driver being charged with manslaughter, was pregnant, according to police sources.
The 23-year-old victim was thrown from the passenger seat of a white Dodge sedan when the driver crashed into a guard wall and pole on Hylan Boulevard. near Rose Avenue in New Dorp around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.
The impact broke the car into three pieces. The woman, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
The 30-year-old driver, identified by police as Adema Nikezika of the Great Kills, suffered only minor injuries. Medics took him to Northern Staten Island University Hospital in a stable condition.
Nikezik is charged with manslaughter, negligent homicide, drunk driving and assault.
