One person died in a murder in Gilroy, a suspect arrested south of Salinas after stealing the victim’s car.

GILROY, California. (KION-TV) — Gilroy police have announced that a suspect has been arrested in Salinas in connection with a reported murder that took place early Tuesday morning.

The officers said they responded to a report of a hit-and-run with injuries in the 1300 block of Pheasant Drive around 00:24. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 33-year-old man on the street with a reported gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that the victim was confronted by a suspect who stole his vehicle. During the confrontation, the suspect shot the victim and fled in his car.

The California Highway Patrol found the stolen car and arrested the suspect south of Salinas after a chase.
