New details on missing at-risk Marina woman last seen leaving her home

MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE Dec 12, 2022, at 1:13 p.m.– Marina Police have released new images of a missing Marina woman last seen leaving her home on Dec. 5

Sandy Thi Hunynh, 20, is seen in new photos in the lobby of the Comfort Inn at 140 Beach Road just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 3. Two days before she was reported missing.

Staff told police she was charging her cell phone in the lobby. She was also carrying a possibly purple blanket and potentially carrying a dark blue or black colored backpack. She told the staff she was staying at the beach.

Sandy is described as a Vietnamese woman who is 5’4 and weighs 100 pounds. She has long black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a grey-colored hooded sweater and black leggings and carrying a Nike sports bag on Dec. 5.

Police added that Sandy was not currently employed or at school.

Police tell KION she is considered at-risk because she has not been contacted in days by family, which is unlike her. Detectives do not know if she was kidnapped or fell and hurt her leg. etc. Leading to them asking the public for help so more eyes can be on the lookout.

Police are looking at every possibility right now.

Marina Police also say they do not believe Sandy’s disappearance is linked to the disappearance of two Salinas women earlier this year.

Arelie Garcia went missing in late September, and her car was found in Big Sur with her phone inside. Kayeleigh Gammil went missing in Salinas in August, and her body was found off Highway 1 in the Big Sur area on August 30.
