Murdo jurors say 1 piece of evidence ‘cut the deal’ by convincing them of Alex’s guilt

The three jurors who found Alex Murdo guilty of killing his wife and son explain why they thought the disgraced lawyer was guilty.

James McDowell, Gwen Generet and Amy Williams spoke about their experiences as jurors in an interview Monday with NBC’s Today.

McDowell said the video from the scene of the murders of Paul and Maggie Murdo – two of the victims – ended up being circumstantial evidence supporting the verdict.

“I think a lot of people said that the kennel video is what he lied about,” he said.

“That’s interesting, because if he didn’t, how did he know what time to lie about not being there?”

Alex Murdo’s voice can be heard in a Snapchat video recorded by his son Paul just minutes before the two victims were mortally wounded.

Should all murderers face the death penalty?

Alex Murdo initially claimed to have been on the family property at the time of the murders, but admitted on the stand that he had lied to law enforcement about his whereabouts at the time of the murders.

Generette said she recognized Murdo’s voice in the video as he testified in his own defense, a tactic that turned out to be a mistake.

“When he testified, I thought, ‘OK, so it was him,'” Generet said of Murdo’s testimony.

“I don’t know him so I never heard his voice, but I realized it was him in the kennel video and that kind of sealed the deal,” she said.

Williams also said the video played a “big role” in the verdict, Today reports.

Conviction didn’t seem win-win at one point during jury deliberations.

The two jurors believed Murdo was innocent during the trial, only to have their colleagues convince him of his guilt.

The sensational trial of a former prestigious South Carolina lawyer has been called the “trial of the century.”

Murdo was sentenced to two life sentences the day after his conviction.
