Massachusetts mom Lindsey Clancy shared postpartum troubling battle before allegedly killing babies

A Massachusetts mother accused of fatally strangling her two young children and attempting to kill her infant before jumping out of a window revealed online months earlier that she struggled with her mental health after giving birth.

Lindsey Clancy, 32, opened up about her struggle with postpartum anxiety on Facebook in July, months before the shocking violence at her Duxbury home on Tuesday, reports the Boston Globe.

Six weeks after giving birth to her third child, the mom-of-three shared another post about how she felt “connected” again.

She said she focused on exercise, nutrition, and her mindset, noting that “it changed everything,” according to the publication.

The post is not publicly visible on the Facebook page.

Authorities are looking into the possibility that Clancy suffered from postpartum psychosis, sources told CBS Boston.

Clancy, a maternity nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, allegedly killed her daughter Cora, 5, and her son Dawson, 3, and attempted to kill her 8-month-old son.

She remains in the hospital after jumping from a second-story window of her home on Summer Street, about 35 miles southeast of Boston, in what authorities say was a suicide attempt.

Clancy is charged with two counts of murder, three counts of strangulation or strangulation, and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, officials said.

Firefighters responding to an emergency call from Clancy’s husband, Patrick, found their three children “unconscious with obvious signs of injury,” officials said.

Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at the hospital, and the baby, who turned 8 months old on Thursday, was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he remains hospitalized.

“I can’t understand the pain, the depth of pain” that the family must be experiencing, said Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz, who did not provide information on possible motives.

Mass General said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of this unthinkable tragedy,” the hospital said in a statement. “We express our deepest condolences to all those affected by these devastating events.”

Clancy, who graduated from Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, Connecticut, and Patrick got married in 2016 in Southington, Connecticut, the newspaper reported.

She received her biology degree from Quinnipiac University in 2012 and has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Institute of Health Professions at Massachusetts General Hospital, Globe reports.

In her yearbook profile, Clancy wrote that “life gets messy sometimes.”

“No matter how you fight it, you fall. And it’s scary. Except that free fall also has a positive side. This is the chance you give your friends to catch you,” she wrote.

In 2018, the couple bought their home at 47 Summer Street for $500,000, according to city records cited by the Globe.

Clancy appeared online as a loving mom living an idyllic life in the suburbs.

“I feel like the happiest mom in the whole world,” she wrote. In a later post, she said, “So incredibly grateful for this family and life.”

On Wednesday, an SUV parked outside the house had a “Child on Board” sticker on the rear window, the Globe reported.

Clancy’s father-in-law, Christopher Clancy, declined to comment.

“We are all heartbroken right now,” he told the newspaper.

Residents expressed their shock at the death and the accusations against their neighbor.

“It’s very sad. It’s like, ‘How can this happen here?'” Tom McGrath told the Globe and prayed for the family.

“Especially for the baby – and prayers for what she went through to make it,” he added, referring to Clancy.

Duxbury Fire Chief Rob Reardon said support services have been offered to first responders who are facing a dire scene.

City manager Renee Reid looked flustered when she told reporters she was working closely with first responders.

“I don’t know much about what they’re going through, but when they tell me this is the worst thing they’ve ever seen, it’s going to have consequences,” Reed said, according to the Globe.
