Man trying to break up fight in Manhattan store slashed across face

A man was slashed when he tried to break up a fight in a Manhattan store, police said Sunday.

The 38-year-old man was shopping in 600 Candy Grocery store on W. 161st St. near Broadway in Washington Heights on Oct. 23 when two other people in the store started arguing around 7 p.m., cops said.

The disagreement escalated and the customers started physically fighting.

The victim tried to get between the two to deescalate the brawl, but one of the men barked, “I hate Mexicans,” pulled out a knife and slashed him across the face, police said.

Despite the wound from the slash, the injured man refused medical attention.

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.

Police on Sunday released an image of the man who slashed the victim and are asking the public’s help in identifying him.
