Man stabbed to death in basement below Bronx barbershop, attacker arrested at scene

A 46-year-old man was stabbed to death — and a woman he was with was choked and slashed at — in a basement below a Bronx barbershop by an adversary arrested at the scene, police said Thursday.

Anthony Carty was stabbed in the upper body in the basement of the building on Third Ave. near E. 146th St. in Mott Haven about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.

The killer also attacked Carty’s friend, a 49-year-old woman he choked and slashed at, shredding her clothes but not hurting her with the knife, police said.

Medics rushed Carty to Lincoln Hospital, where he died. The woman was treated at the scene.

Cops arrested Gregory St. Surin at the scene and recovered the knife. St. Surin, also 46, was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and weapon possession.

Neither the suspect nor the victims live in the two-story building, which has an apartment above a barbershop and salon, according to cops. Carty and St. Surin live around the corner from each other in Soundview.
