Man fatally shot in East Harlem gang clash: NYPD

On Saturday, police said a man died after being repeatedly shot in the head in East Harlem in what police believe was a gang attack.

The 25-year-old victim had just left an apartment on E. 102nd Street near Madison Avenue, which is part of the New York City Housing Authority’s Carver House, around 10:15 p.m. Friday, when a man in a purple-colored North Face jacket swooped in and opened fire.

The shooter shot his victim at least four times in the head before fleeing, police said.

The shooting happened right under the window of a 14-year-old girl.

“Me and my mom heard it,” said the teenager, who asked not to be named. “My mom came into my room, opened the window and saw his body just lying on the ground, and we saw the police all around.”

The shooting shocked the girl.

“I was a little scared because I never expected something like this to happen so close,” she said. “It’s just really scary.”

Police, responding to reports of gunshots, located the victim on a walkway near an apartment building in the Carver Houses complex.

His name is not immediately released as police hunt down family members.

Neighbors said they did not identify the victim, who may have been in the area.

On Friday in East Harlem, a man died after being shot several times in the head, which police believe was carried out by a gang.

Police believe the victim was targeted and a street gang was involved in the murder. The victim is a member of the Mott Haven Gunnaz, who operate out of Mott Haven Houses in the Bronx, a police source familiar with the case said.

No arrests were made.

According to resident Lisa Smith, gang violence at Carver Houses has been a problem for some time now.

“It’s getting closer and closer, like here. It’s crazy,” Smith, 58, said.

“I have been here for a long time, I am ready to leave,” she said. “Time to move on.”
