Man beaten at NYCHA compound in Manhattan dies months later

Police said Thursday that a homeless man who was beaten by a group of men in a Manhattan apartment complex last year died a few months later from his injuries.

Edgardo Rodriguez, 66, was approached by a distraught crew behind the Taft Houses on E. 115th Street near Park Avenue in East Harlem around 00:15 a.m. on May 24, 2022, police said.

After the beating, the assailants left on foot, leaving Rodriguez with injuries to his face and body.

Medics took him conscious and alert to a Harlem hospital for treatment, but he was later transferred to a facility at Mount Sinai for further treatment, police said.

On August 18, Rodriguez died at the age of 67.

The police do not have more details about the death and are still working on finding out what caused the fateful meeting.

The city medical examiner will determine Rodriguez’s cause of death.

The cops were unable to recover any surveillance footage of Rodriguez’s killers and instead released a photograph of the victim.
