Loaded gun found in 6-year-old Bronx boy’s backpack: NYPD

Two guns were recovered inside city schools Thursday, with one loaded firearm being found in a 6-year-old Bronx boy’s backpack, cops said.

The surprised tot flagged down a teacher at Boys Prep Bronx, a charter school on E. 151st St. in the South Bronx after finding the gun in his backpack when he began class at 8:30 a.m.

The child said he had no idea how the gun got into his backpack.

Cops were questioning the child’s family, working on the theory that someone at his home hid the gun in the boy’s backpack.

School officials said they immediately contacted police when staff found the gun.

“We are obviously shocked and saddened by this situation and are now focused on reviewing our procedures while also ensuring this student and his classmates have the support they need,” a school spokesperson said in a statement.

Around the same time Thursday morning, cops in Brooklyn arrested a 14-year-old boy at Brooklyn Collegiate High School when a 9-mm. handgun was found in his bag.

A few days earlier, the teen was caught on a neighborhood surveillance camera showing the gun to his friends, cops said.

On Thursday morning, school administrators pulled him from class and brought him to a separate room. The gun was still in his backpack, cops said.

Brooklyn Collegiate does not have scanners at the doors, said a source from the city’s School Safety Division.

The teen was hit with weapon possession charges.
