Juvenile justice reform is a farce for victims of crime

Let’s not let the criminal justice system fail horribly in the subway beating of Fox News meteorologist Adam Klotz without highlighting the obvious: if everything is so bad in such a high-profile case, it’s terrible in hundreds of others who will never make the news.

Four teenage bullies were caught from a larger group who beat Klotz to the hospital after he simply spoke when they threatened an older man on the subway. All four were released without charge, simply on “juvenile reports”.

Under New York City’s crazy age-raising law, three attackers were given a revolving door despite video evidence. The fourth, aged 18, was arrested, charged with petty assault in the third degree, and served a fine for appearing in a Manhattan court. . . eventually.

That is not only Raise the Age, which ensures that those under the age of 18 almost never face serious consequences, even for felonies: these are other “reforms” that turn assault – even one that sends someone to the hospital – into a simple offense. and judges do not even have the power to detain violent criminals.

If Klotz wants to press charges against teenagers, he would must file a complaint with the city’s probation department (which deals with offenders who have committed offenses), which will then decide whether the case should be transferred to the legal department for prosecution in juvenile court.

This is obscene: the system must speak and work per victims of crime, don’t ask them to fightvs system!) for a measure of justice.

Progressives insist that their reforms are about “fairness.” But the main victims are people who live mostly in low-income and minority areas most affected by crime, as well as teenagers. encouraged start a life of crime.

Adam Klotz will most likely be fine. Progressives claim they care about downtrodden New Yorkers who will pay the ultimate price. How long will their ideology blind them to reality?
