Jay Leno broke his collarbone, kneecap and ribs in a motorcycle accident

Leno had previously been injured in November when his face and upper torso caught fire while repairing another vintage car.

WASHINGTON. Jay Leno, iconic comedian and former host of The Tonight Show, appears to have been injured again in yet another accident a few months after a garage fire kept him off the Las Vegas Strip for months.

Leno told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that on January 17 he crashed the motorcycle he was repairing, breaking his collarbone, several ribs and both kneecaps.

“Just last week I was knocked off my motorcycle,” he told the newspaper. “So, my collarbone is broken. I have two broken ribs. I have two cracked kneecaps.”

But he stressed that he was fine after the accident.

“But I’m fine!” Leno said, “I’m fine, I’m working. I’m working this weekend.”

Leno said he was working on one of his vintage cars, a 1940 Indian motorcycle, and took it for a test drive. During the ride, he noticed the smell of gasoline leaking from the motorcycle and turned into an alleyway to investigate.

“So I turned into an alley and drove through the parking lot, and without my knowledge, some guy ran a wire through the parking lot, but without a flag hanging on it,” Leno told the Review-Journal by phone. “So I didn’t see it until it was too late. It’s just a clothesline and, boom, knocked me off my bike.”

The comedian is well known for his love of vintage cars and motorcycles, repairing them at his Los Angeles home and driving them around the neighborhood. But restoring old cars can be a dangerous hobby.

Leno has been recovering for months from burns caused by a garage fire last year. In November, while he was repairing the fuel line in the 1907 White Steam Car, a fire broke out in his garage. He received second-degree burns to his upper body and face.

Despite a string of injury setbacks, Leno is still set to return to the Las Vegas Strip on March 31st when he debuts at a new venue: the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.
