In prominent venues in New York City, Chinese officials repeatedly spoke out praising the CCP and denying the genocide of the Uyghurs.

Some of New York’s most famous venues recently hosted a Chinese official who called the ruling Chinese Communist Party “great” and dismissed reports of China’s systematic persecution of minorities as “lies.”

Huang Ping, who has served as Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in New York since 2018, appeared at Barclays Center, Nasdaq MarketSite and the Empire State Building last week, talking to prominent American business leaders at every stop.

The Brooklyn Nets NBA club, which plays at the Barclays in Brooklyn, celebrated the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit on Thursday. Huang walked onto the basketball court, where he briefly spoke and received a sweater and a toy rabbit as a gift from Sam Zussman, CEO of Nets parent company BSE Global.

The game gave us “an opportunity to come together and pay tribute to the rich history and traditions associated with Chinese culture around the world and in our own community,” Zussman said.

Earlier this week, Ping rang the opening bell of the Nasdaq stock exchange in Times Square, also in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Chinese state media were quick to publicize Huang’s appearance, including warm words from Nasdaq Vice Chairman Robert H. McCue Jr., who welcomed the consul and praised Nasdaq’s ties to China.

“Nasdaq’s commitment to China remains very strong,” McCuey said at the ceremony. “We are very proud to be home to over 175 Chinese companies, innovative and iconic companies that embody the entrepreneurial spirit that helps our two countries continue to grow.”

Nasdaq also lists many of the largest US tech companies and is being scrutinized by US officials, along with other major exchanges, for listing Chinese companies due to transparency concerns and national security threats.

All Chinese companies are “obliged to install a PDA [Chinese Communist Party] cells in their operations and support the CCP’s security agencies,” the China Task Force, a major project undertaken by members of Congress in 2020, said in a report. “The CCP infiltrates its members into every company and organization.”

US officials have also said that Chinese espionage is costing the US more than $600 billion a year in stolen intellectual property.

However, Huang backed McQuee’s hospitality, saying that China would reach its “destination” and “share the fruits” with everyone.

“China is making it clear that we are going to open our doors and open up wider to work with the international community, to realize our purpose, to achieve our purpose, and to share the fruits with everyone,” he said. “As we now approach the Year of the Rabbit, we must move as fast as the rabbit and work together to implement the consensus reached by our two presidents to make this relationship more productive and more beneficial for the benefit of our people and all people. Worldwide.”

Michael Sobolik, a fellow for Indo-Pacific Studies at the American Council on Foreign Policy, recently told Fox News Digital that China is exerting “malign influence” on the US through “American voices to advance its own hostile agenda.”

Last week, Huang also attended the Empire State Building’s lighting ceremony to mark the start of the Lunar New Year.

“We are so happy to convey our heartfelt New Year wishes to the entire Chinese community here in the United States, around the world and especially in China,” said Tony Malkin, Chairman, President and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust. Ceremony.

Huang noted that it has been half a century since US-China engagement began under the Nixon administration and called for more people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

However, despite his lukewarm rhetoric, Huang repeatedly made controversial remarks that did not appear in any of his recent New York meetings. In particular, he often praised the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and staunchly defended China’s treatment of the Uighurs, a predominantly Muslim ethnic minority, in the Xinjiang region.

“There are a lot of lies here, fabricated by some people for their own political purposes,” Huang said in an August 2021 interview, denying the existence of genocide and internment camps targeting Uyghurs. “Like I said, there is no genocide, there is not a single piece of evidence that there was a genocide or anything like that. It’s just slander.”

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the State Department under the Trump and Biden administrations have assessed that China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs. Since 2017, the Chinese government has reportedly imprisoned more than a million Uighurs in concentration camps, where, according to leaked documents from China, prisoners are subjected to rape, torture, forced labor, brainwashing, and forced sterilization.

Huang also called the CCP a “great party” and described the camps that hold Uyghurs as training camps.

“I view these centers as a campus, not as camps,” he said. “We bring these people there for training. And it was quite effective in terms of countering terrorism and de-radicalization. So far, in exactly four years, there has not been a single terrorist attack.”

When previously contacted by the Chinese consulate in New York for comment, it echoed Huang’s comments, telling Fox News Digital that “the Xinjiang issue is not about human rights” and that “a thousand-fold lie is nothing but a lie.”

Huang is no stranger to participating in big events in New York. For example, earlier this year the Consul General attended the Hong Kong Rocks! New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square. celebration. The Biden administration on Thursday extended a program that protects Hong Kong residents in the US from deportation over fears of increased repression in Hong Kong.

Previously, Huang also participated in the Nasdaq Bell Ringing Ceremony and Empire State Building Lighting on several occasions.

In April 2022, the consul made headlines after speaking at the 25th annual Harvard College China Forum at Harvard Business School, where he urged Americans to be more “diversity tolerant” and embrace the Chinese way of governance.

AT THE NASDAQ CALL CEREMONY WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF A CHINESE OFFICIAL CALLING THE UIGUR MUSLIM GENOCIDE A “LIE”

“Over the past 100 years, the CCP has united and led the Chinese people to world-famous achievements in developing our country and improving people’s lives,” Huang said at Harvard, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry transcript. “China will unwaveringly build world peace, promote global development and protect the international order, and continue to make unremitting efforts for human development and progress.”

Huang chided America for having “some narrow-minded people who find it difficult to accept these countries with different histories, cultures and systems from the US,” adding that these voices “always point the finger at these countries and want to change them.”

“The path of socialism with Chinese characteristics is rooted in 5,000 years of Chinese civilization,” Huang continued. “This is the choice of 1.4 billion Chinese. The development and progress made by China over the past few decades have fully proved that this is the right path, in line with China’s national conditions. We will steadily follow this path.” The Harvard Kennedy School on China has shown for 10 consecutive years that the satisfaction of the Chinese people with the work of the government remains above 90% year after year. We hope that the American side will respect the path independently chosen by the Chinese people and promote a peaceful and prosperous China. .”
