Five hospitalized after shooting on Los Angeles beach

Police said five people were hospitalized after two suspects opened fire on a Los Angeles beach Saturday night.

LAPD responded to the shooting at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro around 5:45 p.m. and found five male victims with gunshot wounds, the LAPD told KTLA.

Police said the two male suspects approached a group of 20 to 30 people in their 20s who were hanging out on the beach.

After an altercation, the couple fired at least ten rounds with a semi-automatic pistol before fleeing the scene in a silver sedan, police said.

The victims, aged between 15 and 51, were taken to a district hospital for treatment, according to the KTLA. According to police, four of the victims are in stable condition, one is in critical condition.


No arrests were made in connection with the shooting, as police cordoned off the area to investigate.

“We are outraged and saddened by the shooting at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro, in which 5 people were injured. It’s tragic irony that today we hosted a gun buyback event just a few miles from this location,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Los Angeles City Council member Tim McOsker. said in a joint statement.

“Gun violence is wreaking havoc in our community.”

Khan and McOsker said the beach will be closed tomorrow and will close earlier on weekends in the future until a security plan is put in place to contain the violence.
