Comer: Justice Department ‘abuses’ its power – potentially hindering congressional oversight

Representative James Comer (R-KY) said Friday on FNC’s Your World program that the Justice Department is abusing its power by not handing over documents requested by congressional committees.

Host Neil Cavuto said: “We are now looking into these documents. Looks like we need to hurry up and wait not only for you, but for Jim Jordan and the Judiciary Committee. The DOJ has focused on the General Counsel doing this, and now on you guys.

Comer said: “Now it is difficult to imagine a worse cabinet than the Department of Homeland Security. I would like you to visit the Department of Justice. They abuse their power. They politicized and armed the Ministry of Justice. They are doing everything they can to prevent serious congressional oversight, whether it be my committee or the Judiciary Committee. It’s unfortunate. That’s what these committees should be doing.”

Cavuto said, “Where are they making things difficult for you? I know what you’re saying. We heard the same thing elsewhere. They put emphasis on dealing with the special counsel and distributing it that way. I don’t know everything that goes on behind the scenes. But it’s like hurrying up and waiting.”

Comer said: “Yes, we have jurisdiction over the national archives. They are the agency at the center of this docudrama.”

He added: “This is wrong. The National Archives will pay the price for this. Look, this agency has created a lot of chaos around here. Apparently there were mistakes. It is necessary to reform the procedure for transporting documents after the president or vice president leaves office.”
