Where are the Bay Area Wordle Scammers?

At the height of the pandemic, word lovers across the country were obsessed with finding the five-letter answer to Wordle, a word-guessing game created by a Brooklyn-based software developer and then acquired by The New York Times for a small seven-figure sum. sum. But increasingly, Wordle players are obsessed with another aspect of the word puzzle – the game.

This is reported by Unscrambler.com, a website that helps unravel player orders for games like Scrabble. The site’s analysis of Google trends over the past year shows that Wordle players are looking forward to cracking the Sphinx-like word game, but the scam seems to be on the wane.

According to the analysis, compared to last year, the number of requests for “Word Prompt” exceeded the number of requests for “Word Answer” and was half as many as “Wordle Today”. Also, clue searches have grown more than the phrase “Word Solver”.

“Getting a straight answer ruins the fun of the game,” commented a spokesperson for Unscramblerer.com in a press release. “While the hint still allows you to solve the word puzzle on your own. Hints seem like the perfect solution if you’re stuck with Wordle.”

That being said, some states and parts of California have more scammers than others.

Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island are among the top five states for Wordle cheating, while California is the sixth-lowest Wordle cheating state. Sunny Palm Springs in Southern California is the epicenter of fraud in the Golden State, and Bakersfield is home to the most honest wordsmiths.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Boys Hot Springs in Sonoma County is the largest center for Wordle scams, while players in Santa Clara County’s Los Altos scam the least. The San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose metro area is the third most popular Wordle region in the state.

And across much of San Francisco Bay, the Wordle is most popular in Stinson Beach, followed by Bodega Bay and finally Monte Rio.
