Brooklyn teen turns himself in to police after shooting 12-year-old friend

Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy who they say admitted to shooting his friend in Brooklyn while playing with a gun, police said Wednesday.

The teenager turned himself in at the 73rd precinct with his mother on Tuesday and was charged with the attempted murder of a 12-year-old boy, police said.

His name has not been released due to his age.

Last week, NYPD Chief James Essig said the victim and his friends, all under the age of 16, were hanging out in the lobby of a building on Bristol Street near Dumont Avenue in Brownsville when one of them began fiddling with a . .380.

According to Essig, the teenager took out the magazine, but forgot that there was a bullet in the chamber.

He pointed it at his friend and pulled the trigger, the chief added.

The boy was wounded in the left shoulder, and his friends fled.

“What did you do?” yelled the girl who was looking down the flight of stairs after the shot rang out.

The boy was rushed to the Maimonides Medical Center, where he was expected to recover.
