Amber alert issued for 3 month old boy in Kaufman County

Law enforcement officials say an Amber Alert is in effect for a 3-month-old boy who was picked up Wednesday night by a mother in custody from a domestic violence shelter in Kemp, Kaufman County.

According to Kemp Police, Abigail Margaret Williams, 23, took Xavier Calliste Jr. around 7:00 pm on Wednesday from a shelter used by government agencies to house abused or recovering mothers and their children.

Investigators said that around 9:23 a.m. Thursday, they were notified of the possible kidnapping of the child, and an Amber Alert was issued in the afternoon.

While the mother is allowed to come and go from the shelter, the child was in the care of Child Protective Services and was ordered by the Smith County court to remain in the shelter. They have been there since Sunday, police said.

Police said the baby was taking prescription medication to be taken with formula, but both medications were left behind.

Callista is described as Black with brown eyes and black hair, and is 23 inches tall and weighs about 8 pounds.

Williams is described as a black woman with brown eyes and brown hair. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. The Texas DPS said she was last seen driving a vehicle with an infant, but a description of the vehicle was not immediately available.

Police said Williams was charged with interfering with child custody.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kemp Police Department or call the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office at 469-376-4598 and ask to speak with a Kemp Police Officer.

The disappearance is being investigated by Kemp Police with the assistance of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers.

The camp is located about 45 miles southeast of Dallas.
