All-Western Parade Opens Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Opening Weekend

The first weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo kicked off with a long tradition of western parade.

More than 2,000 horses took part in the all-western parade, joined by riding clubs and marching bands. The route began at the Tarrant County Courthouse on Main Street in Fort Worth.

Maria Rohero of Fort Worth attended the parade with her daughter and grandson. Her husband was at the parade.

“This is our tradition. We love to come and watch bands, cowboys. Everybody. Almost everything,” said Rogero.

For their family, the parade has become a tradition. For others, it was their first experience. Maria Barrios comes from Mount Pleasant.

“It’s amazing. Nice to see all the horses and all dressed up in western style. It’s beautiful,” Barrios said. “When we performed we saw a Mexican band playing. These are our roots, you know the Mexican roots. It’s amazing to see them embrace our roots here.”

The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo draws over 1 million people every year for 23 days. The organizers said that perhaps this year they will break the attendance record.

Delia Perez and her husband Joe live in Dallas and attended the event on Saturday.

“I like to come and look at the animals and shop,” Perez said. I have to wear boots. We need to go to Coteown. Where else would you put your boots on?”

Jason Schinberg of Cleburne brought his family.”

“Overall Stock Show is a blast. They have carnival rides, then we can go see the animals. We can touch animals. It’s just fun.” – Schinberg

According to him, Schinberg’s daughter Ava is interested in horses and can take part in 4-H activities.

“I just love their texture and the way they look. I just think they are very adorable,” Ava said.

The last day of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is February 4th.
