Husband of Massachusetts mother accused of killing three children asks the public to forgive her

The husband of a 32-year-old mother accused of killing her three young children wrote a sincere statement about the terrible events, his dead children and even his wife.

Lindsey Clancy faces multiple murder and other charges after her daughter Cora, 5, and her son, Dawson, 3, were strangled to death in the family home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, a coastal town about 30 miles south of Boston. They were pronounced dead in the hospital.

The couple’s 7-month-old Callan was also taken to the hospital, where he later died, according to local authorities.

Police and firefighters arrived at the home on January 24 just after the emergency services received a call from a resident who said Clancy had jumped out of a window. Rescuers found her and the children unconscious with clear signs of injury. Authorities said the children were strangled.

“The shock and pain is excruciating and relentless,” her husband Patrick Clancy wrote in a lengthy GoFundMe statement hosted for him by Matthew Glazer.

“Any parent knows that it is impossible to know how much you will love your children until you have them. The same goes for understanding the devastation of losing them,” Patrick Clancy wrote in a post published Jan. 28. “Cora, Dawson, and Callan were the essence of my life, and I’m completely lost without them.”

He went on to describe each of his children, noting Cora’s “infectious laugh”, Dawson’s “beautiful, daring brown eyes twinkling with friendship”, and Callan as “an incredibly happy and bright kid, constantly smiling”.

Patrick Clancy added that Cullen, who was hospitalized but later succumbed to his injuries, “died with great courage despite being so small.”

“Maybe it was his way of demonstrating what I need to do to move forward. I will always draw inspiration from him. He will always be my little hero,” his father wrote.

Referring to his wife Lindsey, who was also hospitalized in police custody and due to stand trial on murder charges after her release, Patrick Clancy described their marriage as “beautiful and diametrically stronger as her condition rapidly deteriorated.”

Further details have not been released by investigators, although some have speculated that Lindsey Clancy may have suffered from severe postpartum depression or psychosis at the time of the alleged murders.

Her husband continued to shed light on their married life, in which they said “I love you” to each other several times a day, “as if it were a reflex.” Lindsey Clancy also worked as a birth nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, “but nothing could compare to her intense love for our children and dedication to motherhood.”

“It was all she ever wanted. Her passion taught me how to be a better father,” wrote Patrick Clancy.

“I want to ask all of you to find the strength to forgive Lindsey, as I did,” he wrote. “The real Lindsey was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our children, family, friends and her patients. The loving fibers of her soul.”

“All I wish for her right now is for her to find peace somehow,” Patrick added.

He ended his statement with a final message to his dead children.

“Cora, Dawson and Callan, you have given me so much in the short time you have been here,” he wrote. “I don’t know if the pain will ever go away, but I will do my best to continue in your honor. Dad loves you very much and will always remember you.”
