A man trying to sell his car on the Facebook Marketplace was robbed at knifepoint while driving to meet a buyer in Queens — just days before an NYPD officer on duty was shot and killed in a similar scam.

Police do not believe the earlier incident was connected to the Saturday murder of a 26-year-old officer in Brooklyn, although the knife robbery illustrates the dangers of selling high-value items to strangers.

The Queens robbery took place on January 27 near Newtown Road and 41st Street in Astoria, police said. The 24-year-old victim agreed to meet the buyer at 20:00 after connecting on Facebook.

One suspect is in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, with a dark complexion and brown eyes. He was wearing a black puffy jacket, a black knitted hat, a black mask, and a gray hoodie.

But when the victim arrived, his potential client pulled out a knife and demanded ownership of the car, police said.

The swindler then left in the victim’s car. About 20 minutes later, the police tried to stop the stolen car on Astoria Boulevard. but the driver sped off.

Police found an abandoned car on Forest Parkway near Route 86 in Woodhaven. Surveillance video shows a second man getting out of a stolen car.

On Sunday, police released images of the two suspects and asked the public for help in identifying and tracking them down.
