A clerk shot the robbery suspects in the back, but he pulled out his gun and fired the fatal shot.

The incident in Connecticut shows how the Second Amendment makes the nation more secure by allowing people to defend themselves against criminals.

Two men wearing black ski masks entered a clothing store in East Hartford around 10:30 pm on Thursday, according to local broadcaster WVIT-TV.

After a brief struggle, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot the shop owner in the back. According to the report, the owner drew his own weapon and returned fire, hitting the suspect several times.

When the police arrived, they took the owner and the suspect to the hospital, where the suspect later died.

The store owner is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, WVIT said.

Another suspect fled during the brawl and remains at large.

This story is yet another example of how the right to keep and bear arms is necessary to provide Americans with the means of self-defense.

Imagine if this shopkeeper didn’t have a gun. He had already been shot in the back, and the suspect could shoot him again or even kill him.

Second Amendment at stake?

But since the shop owner had his own weapon, he was able to stop the robber, saving his life in the process.

We have seen again and again what happens when would-be criminals face law-abiding and trained gun owners. Often their crimes stop on the spot.

A few weeks ago in Arizona, for example, an armed would-be robber was shot dead at a Chevron station when an armed employee took a distraction to shoot a suspect.

Stories like these serve as a lesson to other would-be criminals, warning them of the possible consequences of their actions. So, yes, the Second Amendment is effective in fighting crime and saving lives.

On the contrary, we see again and again that gun laws, enacted in the name of stopping violent crime, do absolutely nothing to stop crime.

Many leftist-run cities and states that have adopted strict gun laws have some of the highest crime rates in the country because criminals can get around these laws and citizens have no means of defending themselves.

In Illinois, for example, all the stringent gun laws didn’t stop a gunman from committing a mass shooting in Highland Park outside of Chicago last summer.

If we want to stop crime in this country, we need to protect the Second Amendment and provide citizens with the necessary resources to protect themselves from violent criminals.

It’s one of the few things that actually deters criminals from committing violent crimes.
